Whether it’s your main character or your alts, patch 12.0.5 introduces several systems that increase your chances of obtaining not only high-level gear, but also targeted pieces for your build, as well as upgrading existing items (weapons and trinkets only).
Mithyc+ (myth in great vault)
🔑 Mythic +10
The best way to obtain max-level gear remains running Mythic +10 dungeons, even if you don’t time them. This guarantees at least one Myth-track item from the weekly great vault. Ideally, you should complete eight +10 runs to unlock three Myth-track choices.
🗝️ Mythic +9 and +10
These guarantee Myth crests at the end of the dungeon, used to upgrade Myth gear to the maximum level (6/6). Timing the key is preferable, otherwise you’ll earn fewer crests. There’s a weekly cap on how many crests you can obtain, which you can track in the Currency tab of your character panel.
💰 Mythic +6 to +9
These levels can drop Hero-track gear at the end of the dungeon, if you’re lucky.
Voidforge: instant bonus loot
🧿 How it works (Nebulous Voidcore)
With this new system, you can obtain additional loot at the end of a Mythic+, raid, or other content. It’s strongly recommended to use it in content that can drop items you specifically need, commonly referred to as BiS (Best in Slot). These items are usually listed in class and spec guides on Wowhead. Ideally, use it in the highest-level content available: for example, using it in a +10 Mythic will immediately grant you what you would normally get from the weekly great vault (a Myth-track item), but instantly. As you use bonus rolls, items you’ve already obtained through this system are gradually excluded, meaning you’ll eventually get what you’re looking for. Note: bonus rolls in Heroic or Mythic raids consume two Cores.

You need to follow or start a questline from Decimus in Netherstorm. It begins with Building the Voidforge. Progress requires turning in 3 shards at a time, obtained by completing Mythic+, raid bosses, or successful delves. Progress is shared across all characters. You start with 2 bonus rolls (=Voidcores), and gain one per week, with catch-up if you miss any.
Voidforge: upgrade to 298 ilvl
📈 How it works (Ascendant Voidcore)
This currency is also unlocked through Decimus in Netherstorm (part of the same Void Forge system). It comes from a 4-week questline, after which you can upgrade one weapon or trinket to item level 298, as long as it is already maxed (for example Hero 6/6, Myth 6/6, or a max-level crafted item).
Ritual Sites (Hero in great vault)
🏛️ How they work
These are similar to delves: 1 to 5 player instances with objectives to complete. You can also select various Challenges (affixes) to increase difficulty. These include tentacle spawns, interruptible enemies, sudden enemy waves, buffs to disable, ground hazards, and more (somewhat reminiscent of N’Zoth Visions).
🎁 Reward
Completing a Ritual Site at level 4 or higher (out of 5 total levels) guarantees a Hero-track item choice in the weekly great vault, under the world activities row.
Delves and Prey (Hero in great vault)
Tier 8 Delves
As before, completing at least tier 8 bountiful delves (marked by a glowing yellow gate icon on the map) grants Hero-track gear choices in the weekly great vault, in the world activities row. There are four bountiful delves per day.
⚜️ Tier 11 Delves and Myth crests
Completing a tier 11 bountiful delve grants Myth crests, used to upgrade gear. However, you only receive 5 per run, with a weekly cap of 20 (i.e. four tier 11 delves). This is only available once you reach at least level 4 of the Delver’s Journal (red book icon in the menu).
🩸 Nightmare Prey
By visiting Astalor, marked with a red crystal icon in Silvermoon, you can pick up prey hunts that guarantee Hero items in the weekly great vault.
Heroic raid (Hero)
🏰 Hero immediately and in the great vault
Defeating raid bosses on Heroic difficulty can reward Hero gear, if you’re lucky. Additionally, if a boss can drop your BiS item, you can use a bonus roll from the Voidforge system introduced in this patch to try obtaining it.
🔝 Myth gear
Bosses in the heroic raid March on Quel’danas can occasionally drop Myth gear. Mythic raids also drop Myth gear, but they are not covered here as they represent extremely advanced content.
